Project description

logo_dvww.pngDas Volk will was“ is a registered not-for-profit society that aims to help citizens have a say in politics. The society does not belong to a political party and works independently. The aim of the society is to work out solutions for current political problems on the basis of thorough discussions among its members. The solutions are then presented as petitions for referenda and put to the vote on the Internet.

To make the voting more representative, the society wants to encourage at least 5% of the people who are entitled to vote (3 million citizens) to register on the society's website www.dasvolkwillwas.de and participate in the voting. By doing so, a new form of nationwide petitions for referenda is to be established in the Federal Republic of Germany. The successfully
selected petitions for referenda are then to be put forward to the German Bundestag by independent and directly elected candidates.

On its website, the society offers a variety of information about independent candidates. These include personal information, political aims and whether or not a particular candidate participates in the “Wählen für den guten Zweck“ (vote for charity) campaign. This campaign was founded by the society, especially for the 2009 Bundestag elections. It aims at making political and social topics more interesting, especially for non-voters, to encourage more people to go to the ballot box. In
case of a successful election, the respective independent candidates donate the reimbursement of their election campaign expenses to charity organizations in their constituencies. With a number of 200.000 people who are entitled to vote per constituency and 2,80€ for each vote this makes 560.000€ for charity.
